EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the artwork titled "Penitent St Jerome recto Notes Accounts verso" by Artokoloro. The image captures a stunning piece of art that dates back to around 1600, depicting the penitent Saint Jerome. Rendered in brown ink, this masterpiece measures approximately 5 9/16 x 8 inches (141 x 203 cm). The artist behind this remarkable creation is Vicente Carducho, an Italian painter born in 1570 and passed away in 1638. Interestingly, this artwork was previously attributed to Bartolomé, a Spanish artist from Florence who lived between ca. 1560-1608 and later settled in Madrid. The composition itself portrays St Jerome during his period of penance and reflection. With meticulous attention to detail, Carducho skillfully depicts the saint's contemplative expression as he engages with his surroundings. The reverse side of the artwork reveals additional notes and accounts written alongside the main illustration. This unique feature adds another layer of intrigue to this already fascinating piece. Artokoloro has done an exceptional job capturing every intricate detail through their photography expertise. This print allows viewers to appreciate Carducho's mastery even if they cannot experience it firsthand at a museum or gallery. Overall, this photograph provides a glimpse into history while showcasing artistic brilliance that transcends time and place.
