This print showcases General Fernand de Langle de Cary, a distinguished French soldier who dedicated his life to serving his country. Born in 1849, he embarked on his military journey by joining the Army in 1869. As fate would have it, he found himself at the forefront of one of history's most devastating conflicts – the First World War. In 1914, General Fernand de Langle de Cary assumed command of the renowned French Fourth Army. Leading with unwavering courage and strategic brilliance, he guided his troops through treacherous battles and challenging terrains. Due to this perceived failure at Verdun and reaching an age where retirement was deemed necessary for him, General Fernand de Langle de Cary bid farewell to active service. His remarkable career had come full circle as he gracefully stepped down from duty after decades spent defending France's honor. This print serves as a poignant reminder of a man whose commitment to duty knew no bounds. It encapsulates both triumphs and setbacks faced by soldiers during times of war.
