View of the Anglo-Australian Telescope, Australia
Anglo-Australian Telescope. View of the dome of the Anglo-Australian Telescope (aT) seen behind a native Australian grass tree or blackboy, Xanthorrhoea hastilis. This 3.9m optical telescope is part of the Anglo-Australian Observatory on the summit of the 1200m high Siding Spring mountain in New South Wales, Australia. Since completion in 1974 the aT has enabled observation of many objects and regions only visible from the Southern Hemisphere, for example the centre of our own Milky Way Galaxy. The Anglo-Australian Observatory also operates the UK Schmidt Telescope. The Observatory is funded and run jointly by the United Kingdom and Australia

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent Anglo-Australian Telescope, located in Australia. Standing tall behind a native Australian grass tree, known as blackboy or Xanthorrhoea hastilis, the dome of this 3.9m optical telescope dominates the frame. Perched on the summit of the Siding Spring mountain in New South Wales at an impressive height of 1200m, it is part of the renowned Anglo-Australian Observatory. Since its completion in 1974, this remarkable telescope has played a pivotal role in enabling observations that were previously only possible from the Southern Hemisphere. It has provided astronomers with unparalleled views of various celestial objects and regions, including our very own Milky Way Galaxy's center. The Anglo-Australian Observatory not only operates this exceptional telescope but also oversees the UK Schmidt Telescope. Jointly funded and run by both Australia and United Kingdom, it serves as a hub for groundbreaking research and discoveries within astrophysics. Science Photo Library presents this awe-inspiring image to highlight both the scientific significance and natural beauty surrounding these astronomical endeavors. With its focus on astronomy enthusiasts and researchers alike, this print captures a momentous collaboration between two nations dedicated to unraveling mysteries beyond our planet's atmosphere.
