The larger eel, identified as a Conger Eel (Mylophitis conger), exhibits its powerful, serpentine body and distinctive elongated pectoral fins. Known for their ability to burrow into the seabed, Conger Eels are apex predators in their marine habitats, reaching impressive sizes up to 1.5 meters in length. In stark contrast, the smaller eel in the foreground is a Sharpnosed Eel (Heterostichus rostratus). With its slender body and distinctively pointed snout, this eel is an excellent swimmer and is often found in brackish waters. Sharpnosed Eels are also known for their unique reproductive behavior, where they transform into an elongated, eel-like male and a rounded, fish-like female.
