Detail of West Thumb Geyser Basin emptying into Yellowstone Lake, Wyoming, USA
The West Thumb Geyser Basin, including Potts Basin to the north, is the largest geyser basin on the shores of Yellowstone Lake. Generally all geyser field sites are located near active volcanic areas, and the geyser effect is due to the proximity of magma. Surface water works its way down to an average depth of around 2, 000 meters where it contacts hot rocks. The resultant boiling of the pressurized water results in the geyser effect of hot water and steam spraying out of the geysers surface vent

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the mesmerizing beauty of the West Thumb Geyser Basin as it empties into Yellowstone Lake in Wyoming, USA. Known as the largest geyser basin on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, this natural wonder is a testament to the incredible forces at work beneath our planet's surface. Located near active volcanic areas, geyser fields like this one owe their existence to the proximity of magma. As surface water gradually makes its way down to an average depth of 2,000 meters, it encounters scorching hot rocks. The intense heat causes the pressurized water to boil vigorously, resulting in a spectacular display known as the geyser effect. In this image captured by Danita Delimont from Fine Art Storehouse, we witness nature's power unleashed. The vertical composition showcases an expansive landscape with no human presence in sight. A blanket of clouds hovers above, adding a touch of drama and mystique to the scene. The geological formations within this photograph are truly awe-inspiring. From afar, steam rises gracefully from various geysers' surface vents while hot water cascades into Yellowstone Lake below. This snapshot perfectly encapsulates both the delicate beauty and raw energy that coexist harmoniously in our natural world.
