EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases two beautifully preserved George VI farthings from 1949 and 1951. The farthing, a coin worth a quarter of a penny, was part of the British currency until it ceased to be legal tender in 1960. King George VI, who reigned from 1936 until his death in 1952, is depicted on the obverse side of each coin. However, the reverse side of these coins is what makes them truly unique. Featuring a wren, a small brown bird commonly found in the United Kingdom, these coins pay homage to the natural world. The intricate detailing of the wren's feathers and beak is a testament to the skill of the coin engravers during the 1940s. These coins, with their rich history and charming design, offer a glimpse into the past and a reminder of the simpler times of the mid-20th century. The copper coins, with their worn edges and subtle patina, tell a story of their own, inviting us to imagine the hands that once held them and the pockets in which they were kept. This print is not only a collector's item but also a piece of historical art, showcasing the beauty and intrigue of British coinage.
