Jupiters interior, artwork
Jupiters interior. Cutaway computer artwork showing the interior structure of the planet Jupiter. Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest in the solar system, with a mass two and a half times that of all the other planets put together. A rocky core (small sphere, centre) about the size of Earth lies at its centre, where the temperature is 20, 000-30, 000 degrees Celsius. Around the core is a vast layer of liquid hydrogen (blue), which accounts for most of the planets mass. The inner part of the hydrogen layer (light blue) is under such high pressure that it acts like molten metal. Uppermost is a thin atmosphere of hydrogen (dark blue), water and ice (yellow), ammonium hydrosulphide (brown) and ammonia crystals (red)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork captures the intricate and mysterious interior structure of Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. With its black background, the image immediately draws us into a realm of cosmic exploration. At the center lies a rocky core, comparable in size to our own Earth but engulfed by temperatures ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 degrees Celsius. Surrounding this core is an expansive layer of liquid hydrogen that dominates Jupiter's mass. The inner part of this hydrogen layer exhibits such immense pressure that it behaves like molten metal, creating a fascinating juxtaposition within the planet's composition. Above this metallic-like region rests a thin atmosphere composed of hydrogen, water and ice, ammonium hydrosulphide, and ammonia crystals. The vibrant colors used in this artwork beautifully represent these different elements present within Jupiter's complex structure. From deep blues symbolizing gaseous layers to warm browns depicting ammonium hydrosulphide and striking reds representing ammonia crystals - each hue adds depth to our understanding of this gas giant. Carlos Clarivan masterfully brings together scientific accuracy with artistic interpretation in his creation. This print not only serves as an awe-inspiring visual representation but also sparks curiosity about the wonders hidden beneath Jupiter's surface. As we gaze upon this cutaway illustration, we are reminded once again of how vast and enigmatic our universe truly is.
