EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a stunning portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, the last Tudor monarch. Painted by Charles Henry Bourne Quennell in 1931, this image showcases the iconic queen in all her regal glory. Known as The Virgin Queen due to her decision to never marry, Elizabeth I ruled England from 1558 until 1603. In this portrait, she is depicted wearing an exquisite jewel-encrusted dress adorned with pearls and lace. Holding an ostrich-feather fan delicately in her hand, she exudes elegance and power. The veil covering her head is also embellished with pearls, adding to the opulence of her attire. The original painting by Zuccaro served as inspiration for this illustration found in "A History of Everyday Things in England" by Marjorie and C. D. B Quennell. Published in London in 1931, this book provides a glimpse into English history from the years 1500 to 1799. Queen Elizabeth's reign was marked by political stability and cultural flourishing known as the Elizabethan era. Her strong leadership and patronage of arts contributed greatly to England's growth during that time. This print allows us to appreciate not only the beauty of Queen Elizabeth's costume but also serves as a reminder of her significant impact on British history.
