Framed Print of Dr. Apgar with Nurse and Infant

Dr. Apgar with nurse and newborn infant. Dr. Virginia Apgar (1909-1974), was an American obstetrical anesthesiologist who is best known as the inventor of the Apgar score. The Apgar score is a method to quickly assess the health of newborns based on five criteria: skin color, pulse rate, reflex irritability grimace, activity and respiratory effort. Newborns are evaluated at one and five minutes after birth and the score ranges from zero to 10. © Ann Zane Shanks / Science Source
