The head of the sperm appears buried in the grass-like ciliated epithelium. Tiny projections or microvilli cover the remaining secretory cells, which provide a moist environment & nutrition to both ova and sperm. Sperm remain incapable of fertilising an ovum until after undergoing capacitation, a process which occurs within the female tract.
