Framed Print of Solomon Islands crossing the Britannia Tu
Solomon Islands crossing the Britannia Tubular Bridge, c 1956. The ex-London, Midland and Scottish Railway Jubilee class 4-6-0 arrives on the mainland from Anglesey. Two people wait by the fence to wave. The Britannia Tubular bridge spanned the Menai Straits connecting Holyhead and Anglesey. Designed by Robert Stephenson (1803- 1859), it was completed in 1850, but badly damaged by fire in 1970. The bridge was rebuilt with a road deck above the railway. National Railway Museum is the home of iconic locomotives. Our historic prints reflect the age and quality of the original artwork we hold to preserve their artistic character, including authentic colour reproduction, marks and creases. © National Railway Museum / Science & Society Picture Libr
