Framed Print of The Flying Scotsman, LNER poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote the Flying Scotsman non-stop service between Kings Cross, London and Waverley, Edinburgh. The service covered a distance of 392 miles, with a change of driver and fireman mid-journey. Here, a view of the locomotive is shown, with a driver about to take over from his colleague. Artwork by Frank Newbould (1887-1951), who studied at Bradford College of Art and joined the War Office in 1942. He designed posters for the LNER (London and North Eastern Railway), GWR (Great Western Railway), Orient Line and Belgian Railways. National Railway Museum is the home of iconic locomotives. Our historic prints reflect the age and quality of the original artwork we hold to preserve their artistic character, including authentic colour reproduction, marks and creases. © Please read our licence terms.
