Travel in 1850. Oil painting by Cuthbert Hamilton Ellis, made in 1951, for a British Railways, London Midlands Region (BR/LMR) carriage print. The North Midland Railway, the line on which Derby Station was built, was formed in the 1830s and ran from Derby in Deryshire to Leeds in Yorkshire. In 1844 North Midland Railway amalgamated with York and North Midland Railway, Midland Counties Railway and the Birmingham and Derby Railway to form the Midland Railway. Derby Station was the Midland Railways headquarters. This was one of a series of paintings commissioned for carriage prints by George Dow, advertising manager of BR/LMR during the 1950s. National Railway Museum is the home of iconic locomotives. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
