Framed Print of Cruden Bay Hotel, LNER poster, 1923-1947
Poster produced by London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire, and the railways Cruden Bay Hotel, which LNER owned and managed. The poster shows an interior view of the hotel, here dubbed The Golfers Hotel, with people sitting comfortably at tables and smoking. Artwork by Gordon Nicoll (1888-1959), who studied at Southampton Art School and at Hornsey under Frank Hillyard Swinstead. He was a member of the London Sketch Club. A landscape painter in watercolour and oil, he designed posters for the London North and Eastern Raliway (LNER), including a memorable series on railway hotels, of which this is an example. Dimensions: 1013 mm x 612 mm. National Railway Museum is the home of iconic locomotives. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
