Framed Prints From National Railway Museum

Framed Print of Blackpool, original oil painting for an LMS poster, c 1930s

Original oil painting made for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) for a poster promoting rail services to Blackpool, Lancashire. The painting shows a view of Blackpool beach crowded with people in swimming costumes or in summer dress. Artwork by Fortunino Matania, who was born in Naples, Italy, but from the age of twenty worked in Paris and then in London. King George V (1865-1936) was so impressed with Matanias work that he invited him to cover his tour of India. National Railway Museum is the home of iconic locomotives. Our historic prints reflect the age and quality of the original artwork we hold to preserve their artistic character, including authentic colour reproduction, marks and creases. © Please read our licence terms.
