Framed Print of RAF evacuate wounded partisans from Yugoslavia during the Second World War

RAF evacuate wounded partisans from Yugoslavia during the Second World War.
As well as dropping supplies on a large scale to Marshal Titos forces, the Royal Air Force are also assisting in the evacuation of wounded Partisans of the Yugoslav National Liberation Army from Yugoslavia to Italy, flying them to an air evacuation centre for preliminary medical attention before they are removed to base hospitals.
The RAF medical staff of the evacuation centre wear anti-typhus suits when receiving the wounded, to prevent them from picking up typhus lice, inevitably carried by the patients.
All aircraft are fumigated immediately after the wounded leave and no one is allowed to enter the machines for at least fifteen minutes.
Between May 1944 and the spring of 1945, some 50, 000 wounded and sick partisans and civilians were evacuated from Yugoslavia to Italy through the Balkan Air Force Casualty Evacuation Section.
Picture shows: Leading aircraft man Gerry giving tea to two female partisans who were among the stretcher cases at the evacuation centre in Bari, southern Italy.
