Air Raid Victims of the Blitz, London. The girl being led away is Miss J W Stokes (eyes closed). She was working in the London office for the Welfare of the Blind when it was struck by a bomb. When the pall of dust cleared away she was seen standing in a space between window sills, waving for help. Told to remain still, she was later helped down a ladder and led away. But after her injuries had been attended, and she had had a wash, Miss Stokes returned, to find out how long it would be before her girl friend was rescued. October 1940. © Mirrorpix
