EDITORS COMMENTS
In this charming snapshot from 1931, three schoolboys from Wembley are captured in their smart school uniforms, ready to indulge in a dining experience far beyond the usual quick snacks at milk bars. Determined to elevate their taste buds and broaden their culinary horizons, David Breton, aged 13, Jonathan Joseph Martin, aged 11, and Alan Gumm, also aged 13, pool together their pocket money once a week to treat themselves at the renowned Cherry Tree Restaurant in Wembley, London. Their impeccable behavior and unwavering commitment to fine dining have not gone unnoticed by fellow patrons. So impressed by these young gentlemen's refined tastes and manners is another customer that they have decided to stand them a meal. This heartwarming gesture speaks volumes about the lasting impact of good upbringing and displays of exemplary conduct. Posing alongside the boys is none other than chef Joseph Choroba himself—a testament to his expertise in creating delectable dishes that captivate even the most discerning palates. The formal setting exudes an air of sophistication as these well-mannered youngsters eagerly await their gastronomic adventure. This photograph encapsulates an era when children were taught proper etiquette and appreciated finer things in life. It serves as a delightful reminder that even during challenging times such as those faced during the early 20th century—where economic hardships prevailed—the pursuit of quality experiences remained alive within young hearts.
