17 year old girl and father rethatch a village. Quite a big job for 17 year old Joyce Stamford and her father Corrie Stamford is the thatching of 50 cottages, in and around Barley, the picturesque Hertfordshire village, noted for its curious inn sign, the Fox and Hounds. The village will look quite smart with its new thatch. A film company is to use parts of Barley as backgrounds for a production. Joyce is a very capable thatcher and good at yelming. She helped her father as a child. 25th May 1944. © Mirrorpix
