At an experimental gunnery camp in Manorbier, Wales, members of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) are doing very secret work operating Kine- Theodolite instruments which record the burst of Anti-Aircraft shells onto a photographic film.
From the photographs, calculations are made as to the effect and accuracy of the firing.
Picture shows: ATS girls being taught how to use their instruments. Subaltern Joan Gotter wears the red hat band that signifies a gunnery instructor, she is the only woman in the ATS entitled to it.
She comes from Ireland where her father isa lecturer in mechanics.
Joan joined the ATS as a Kine Theodolite operator with two Irish friends.
