EDITORS COMMENTS
Come Christmas" is a stunning woodcut print created by the talented artist Florence Mary Anderson, working under the name Molly MacArthur, in the year 1927. This beautiful monochrome artwork represents a significant shift in Anderson's illustration style from her earlier, highly-decorative fairy art. During the middle of the 1920s, Anderson began to explore a new aesthetic, producing monotone woodcuts with distinctly oriental influences. The intricate details and bold lines in "Come Christmas" exemplify this new style, which is characterized by its simplicity and elegance. The image captures the spirit of the holiday season with a scene of a cozy, candlelit room adorned with Christmas decorations. A tree stands proudly in the corner, its branches laden with ornaments and twinkling lights. A roaring fire crackles in the hearth, casting warm, inviting light across the room. The woodcut technique used in this print adds texture and depth to the image, making each line and detail stand out in crisp relief. The use of a single color palette enhances the sense of unity and harmony, creating a timeless and serene atmosphere. Anderson's "Come Christmas" is a testament to her artistic versatility and her ability to capture the essence of the holiday season in a simple yet evocative way. This beautiful woodcut print continues to enchant viewers with its intricate details, bold lines, and oriental influences, making it a cherished piece of holiday art.
