EDITORS COMMENTS
The 118-foot racing yacht Cariad, a true masterpiece of maritime engineering, gracefully cuts through the waters in this photo print. Built by Summers & Payne in Southampton for Lord Dunraven in 1896, this magnificent vessel was named after the Welsh word for Sweetheart - a fitting tribute to its undeniable beauty. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail by Kirk & Sons of Cowes, the Cariad showcases the epitome of elegance and speed. Its gaff rig design and close-hauled position demonstrate its prowess as a formidable racing yacht during the early 20th century. The monochrome image captures not only the grandeur of this sailing marvel but also transports us back to an era when wind-powered transportation ruled supreme.
