Cave houses in Goreme, Cappadocia

Cave houses in Goreme, Cappadocia, Turkey.Cappadocia is a historical region of Central Anatolia in Turkey, which covers parts of the provinces of Kayseri, Aksaray, Nigde and Nevsehir. Cappadocia is characterized by a unique geological formation in the world, and its historical and cultural heritage. In 1985, it was included by Unesco in the list of World Heritage. The unique landscape of Cappadocia is the result of the action of natural forces through the millennia. It makes 60 million years the Taurus mountain range was formed, in southern Anatolia, while the alpine chain was formed in Europe. The formation of the mountain range of the Taurus mountains caused numerous gullies and depressions in central Anatolia. Ten million years ago, these depressions were filled by magma and other volcanic features provided by the numerous volcanoes of central Anatolia.Gradually, the depressions were disappearing, transforming the region into a plateau. However, the mineral filled depressions is not very resistant to the action of wind, rain, rivers and temperature differences, so that erosion was sculpting the numerous valleys which Cappadocia is famous
