EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print by Dori Moreno, we are transported to the fascinating world of dung beetles. These incredible creatures, found in various countries across Africa, have a unique diet consisting solely or partially of dung. The image showcases the remarkable strength and determination of these beetles as they go about their nightly task. Despite their small size, a dung beetle is capable of burying dung that is 250 times heavier than itself in just one night! It's an astonishing feat that highlights their impressive physical abilities. Among the different types of dung beetles, there are those known as rollers. As depicted in the photograph, these industrious insects meticulously roll balls of dung into perfectly round shapes. These spherical creations serve multiple purposes for the beetles - they can be used both as a source of nourishment and as breeding chambers. The setting for this snapshot is Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, where these resilient creatures thrive amidst vast landscapes and diverse wildlife. The composition beautifully captures the essence of African wildlife while shedding light on one lesser-known aspect: the vital role played by these humble yet essential insects. Dori Moreno's skillful portrayal invites us to appreciate nature's intricate web and marvel at its smallest contributors. This stunning print serves as a reminder that even seemingly insignificant creatures like dung beetles play an integral part in maintaining ecological balance within our planet's ecosystems.
