EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Sturgeon fishing: dragging fish in Volgas bank" takes us on a nostalgic journey to the Russian fishing industry of yesteryears. With its retro-styled, engraved image, it beautifully captures the essence of a bygone era. The illustration, resembling an etching or pencil drawing, exudes an antique charm that transports us back in time. In this artwork, we witness men engaged in the revival of sturgeon fishing along the banks of the Volga River. The obsolete techniques and tools depicted here highlight the rich history and origins of this ancient culture. As we delve into this piece further, we are reminded of Russia's deep connection with its rivers and their abundant fish populations. The aging process evident in this print adds to its allure, giving it a sense of authenticity and character. We can almost imagine ourselves standing on those worn steps leading down to the riverbank as fishermen drag their prized catch ashore using traditional methods. As our eyes wander through every intricate detail captured by Nikola Nastasic's skilled hand, we cannot help but appreciate how art can preserve moments from history for generations to come. This print serves as a testament to both the skillful craftsmanship involved in creating such works and the importance of cherishing our cultural heritage.
