Young Royal Bengal Tigers play-fighting
Ranthambhore National Park, India
Panthera tigris
Alternative spellings: Ranthambhor / Ranthambore / Ranthambor
Sequence. These images were taken on 30 November 2007 at 8.45am. They show two of three female cubs of a famous Tigress known as Machli or Lady of the lakes'. They are appoximately 15 months old and are play-fighting to help hone their hunting and fighting skills. Tigers inside Ranthambhore National Park are relatively safe, but when these cubs grow up, they have frequent fights among themselves. As a result the weaker ones have to move out of the park to find new territory, where they often fall prey to poachers.
