At its very centre is Sagittarius A*, which probably houses a black hole weighing about 3 million solar masses. The galaxys centre is surrounded by a ring of gas (pink) whose emission was detected in the radio waveband. The outer ring is formed by molecular clouds (orange), and clouds of neutral hydrogen (yellow) and ionised hydrogen (pink).
