This diagram depicts the meticulously planned layout of the Terra Nova, the heroic vessel that carried Sir Robert Falcon Scott and his team on their fateful expedition to the Antarctic from 1910 to 1913. The Terra Nova, named after the ship that carried the first discovery of New Zealand, was a state-of-the-art steam yacht specifically outfitted for the extreme conditions of the polar region. The diagram reveals the ship's impressive dimensions, with a length of 110 feet and a beam of 23 feet. It also illustrates the strategic placement of essential facilities, including the engine room, coal bunkers, and the scientific laboratory.
