With the Japanese forces already ashore in New Guinea, the Boomerang's operational debut came in April 1943. This Australian-designed and built fighter plane played a significant role in the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF) efforts to defend the South Pacific against the advancing Japanese forces. The CA-13 Boomerang was a single-engine, low-wing monoplane, characterized by its distinctive elliptical wings and retractable landing gear. Its unique design offered improved maneuverability and agility, making it an effective weapon against the Japanese Zero fighter planes. The Boomerang was armed with four machine guns and could carry up to 250 pounds of bombs. The CA-13 Boomerang's first flight took place at Archerfield Airport in Queensland, Australia, under the watchful eye of test pilot, Flight Lieutenant J.W.S. McIntosh.
