Known for his remarkable versatility, Carpentier fought across various weight classes throughout his illustrious career that spanned an impressive 109 fights. With a staggering record of 88 victories, he established himself as one of the most successful boxers of his time. Carpentier's achievements include winning European titles at middleweight, light-heavyweight, and even heavyweight divisions. In 1920, he ventured to the United States where he triumphed over Battling Levitsky to claim the World Light-Heavyweight Championship. However, despite his skill and determination, Carpentier faced defeat when challenging Jack Dempsey for the World Heavyweight title in the following year. Beyond boxing prowess, Carpentier showcased his talents outside of the ring as well. After retiring from professional fighting, he embarked on a new path as a vaudeville performer and film actor. The print itself is part of Churchmans Cigarettes' collection of picture cards featuring prominent sports personalities. It offers us a glimpse into Carpentier's intense gaze and muscular physique while donning traditional boxing attire from that era.
