EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Dusky Parrot" a beautifully colored engraving created by George Edwards in the years 1749-73. The original work was later re-engraved by Michael Seligmann, a talented German engraver, illustrator, and art dealer from Nuremberg. "The Dusky Parrot" is part of Edwards' renowned publication titled "A Natural History of Uncommon Birds" which also features illustrations from Mark Catesby's work on the natural history of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands. Seligmann skillfully combined these works, translating their names into German and adding additional figures and plants not present in the originals. In this stunning image, we see a vibrant depiction of Psittacus fuscus mexicanus (the scientific name for the dusky parrot). Its rich colors are brought to life through meticulous engraving techniques that highlight every intricate detail of its feathers and form. This print is an excellent addition to any collection focused on birds, animals, or natural history. It serves as a testament to both Edwards' artistic talent and Seligmann's dedication to preserving and enhancing these remarkable engravings for future generations to appreciate.
