Fuscus Collection

Fuscus is a genus of mormoopid mammals in the family Mormoopidae, and are found in Central and South America and are nocturnal, preferring to stay hidden during the day. They have a wide variety of body shapes and sizes, ranging from small to large. They have short legs with long claws for digging burrows, large ears for hearing predators, and long snouts for sniffing out food. Their fur is usually gray or brown with lighter patches on their faces and backs. Fuscus feed mainly on insects but also eat small vertebrates such as lizards, frogs, birds, eggs, fruits and nuts. They live in colonies of up to 30 individuals that share burrows or tree hollows as shelter from predators and can important members of their ecosystems as they help control insect populations while providing food sources for other animals such as owls or snakes.
