EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur of Carclew, a stately home that once stood near Mylor in Cornwall. Built in 1739 by architect Thomas Edwards for William Lemon, it was later extended at the beginning of the 19th century for Sir William Lemon by William Wood. The photograph showcases the impressive entrance with its balustraded railing and elegant facade, showcasing elements of Georgian and Palladian architecture. Sadly, Carclew met a tragic fate when it was destroyed by fire in 1934. However, this image allows us to appreciate its former glory and architectural beauty. The photographer skillfully captures the details of the building's exterior, including the colonnade and pediment that added to its imposing presence. Published as part of Giles Worsley's book "England's Lost Houses" in 2002, this photograph serves as a poignant reminder of our lost architectural heritage. It is a testament to Worsley's passion for documenting these historic houses before they disappeared forever. Bridgeman Images presents this image from their collection without mentioning any commercial use. Through Fine Art Finder, we can now admire Carclew House through this remarkable photograph taken by an English photographer from the 20th century known simply as mzphoto.
