EDITORS COMMENTS
This image graces the cover of Tatler magazine in 1939, featuring the elegant and enigmatic Countess of Rosse, nee Anne Messel. Born into high society, Anne was the sister of renowned designer Oliver Messel. In her first marriage to Ronald Armstrong-Jones, she bore a daughter and a son, Antony Armstrong-Jones, who would later make headlines when he married Princess Margaret in 1960. After Ronald's passing, Anne married Michael Parsons, the 6th Earl of Rosse, with whom she had two more sons. The Countess's stunning appearance is accentuated by her exquisite jewels, including a magnificent tiara that adds a regal touch to her refined ensemble. The portrait exudes an air of upper-class sophistication and timeless glamour, reflecting the aristocratic elegance of the era. Anne Messel's life was marked by love, marriage, and the birth of a royal offspring, making her a fascinating figure in the annals of high society. This evocative portrait, captured in 1939, offers a glimpse into the world of aristocratic beauty and grace that continues to captivate and inspire.
