This photograph captures Madame Sophie Schliemann, the wife of renowned archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, adorned with ornaments believed to have once belonged to Helen of Troy. Heinrich Schliemann, a German businessman turned archaeologist, was famously obsessed with the legend of Helen and the Trojan War. Schliemann believed that these ornaments, which he found in the Grave Circles at Mycenae, were the personal possessions of Helen, the legendary queen of Sparta and the cause of the Trojan War.
