EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to the 1957 cricket season as Lancashire legends Bob Barber and Jack Dyson stride confidently onto the pitch. As they prepare to face their opponents, their determination is palpable. Bob Barber, a skilled leg-spinning all-rounder, was an integral part of Lancashire County Cricket Club for eight seasons. With 155 first-class appearances under his belt during his time with the county, he showcased his exceptional talent both with bat and ball. Not only did Barber captain the team in 1960 and 1961 as an amateur player but also represented England in 28 test matches. His illustrious career saw him play for Cambridge University before concluding at Warwickshire. Joining Barber on this iconic photograph is Jack Dyson, another stalwart of Lancashire CCC during that era. Over his impressive tenure spanning from 1954 to 1962, Dyson amassed a remarkable total of 4433 runs while taking an impressive tally of161 wickets in first-class cricket matches. Interestingly enough, Dyson's sporting prowess extended beyond cricket; he even played football for Manchester City and notably scored a goal in their victorious FA Cup Final against Birmingham City in 1956. This extraordinary image captured by Colorsport Images not only immortalizes these two legendary cricketers but also serves as a testament to their immense contributions to both Lancashire CCC and English sports history overall.
