EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of methionine crystals under polarised light. With a magnification of x40 at 35mm size, this light micrograph reveals the mesmerizing details and patterns within these crystalline structures. Methionine, an essential amino acid, plays a crucial role in various biochemical processes within living organisms. Its crystal formation is a testament to the complex nature of chemical compounds found in nature. The vibrant colors and geometric shapes seen here offer a glimpse into the molecular world that often goes unnoticed by the naked eye. The use of polarised light enhances our understanding of these crystals by revealing their unique optical properties. This technique allows scientists to study how light interacts with different materials, providing valuable insights into their composition and structure. Beyond its scientific significance, this image serves as a visual reminder of the inherent beauty present in even the smallest components of our world. It invites us to appreciate not only the complexity but also the aesthetic appeal found within chemistry and biochemistry. Science Photo Library continues to capture such stunning visuals that bridge science and art seamlessly. Through their lens, we gain access to extraordinary glimpses into microscopic realms that inspire curiosity and wonder about our natural surroundings.
