EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable specimen of Cassiterite, discovered in the Wherry Mine located in Wherrytown, Penzance, Cornwall, England. The image beautifully captures the rich brown color of this tin ore and highlights its unique black crystals that adorn its surface. Interwoven with these dark formations is white quartz, creating an intriguing contrast. In Cornwall, Cassiterite is predominantly found concentrated within hydrothermal veins and pegmatites that are associated with granite intrusions. This mineral holds immense significance as it serves as the primary source of tin - a metal extensively mined throughout Cornwall's history. The photograph belongs to the esteemed Rashleigh Collection and was expertly captured by Andy Tindle. It not only portrays the geological beauty of this Cornish treasure but also provides valuable insights into the mining industry that has shaped this region for centuries. As you admire this stunning print, take a moment to appreciate both the natural wonders hidden beneath our Earth's surface and the historical importance of mining in Cornwall. Let yourself be captivated by the intricate details displayed on each crystal formation and marvel at nature's ability to create such extraordinary specimens like this one.
