EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the year 1935, amidst the turmoil of World War II. The picture showcases John Hobbs, a distinguished Royal Airforce officer, assuming the role of instructor at an RAF station in Arundel, Sussex. Positioned at the center is Ghita Moss, a talented ballerina dressed elegantly in black attire. Surrounding them are members of a drama school established under the Educational and Vocational Training Scheme. The image beautifully captures the fusion of two seemingly contrasting worlds - ballet and conflict. As war looms over their lives, these individuals find solace and inspiration through dance. With grace and determination etched on their faces, they embody resilience in times of adversity. The significance of education shines through this photograph as young women embrace learning opportunities during such tumultuous times. Through this unique program offered by the RAF station, these aspiring performers receive invaluable instruction from Officer Hobbs himself. Sally Longdon's lens skillfully freezes this moment in time for generations to come. This powerful snapshot serves as a testament to human spirit prevailing even during dark periods in history. It reminds us that art has no boundaries or limitations; it can flourish even amidst chaos.
