EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from Memory Lane Prints, we are transported back to the 1970s and introduced to Brian Lowes of Sedgefield Community Association. Standing in the stocks, his face is covered with sand pies as he endures a playful punishment. The image captures a moment during a medieval fete held on May 19th, 1973, organized by the community association to raise funds for their noble cause - purchasing a community center. Brian's expression reveals both amusement and perhaps a hint of mild discomfort as he experiences being trapped in the stocks. His safety glasses serve as a reminder that even in moments of fun and revelry, precautions must be taken. This photograph not only offers us an intriguing glimpse into UK social history but also highlights the importance of communal efforts in building stronger communities. It showcases how individuals like Brian were willing to go above and beyond, enduring sand pies and public humiliation all for the greater good. As we admire this snapshot frozen in time, let us appreciate those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organize such events that brought people together while raising funds for essential community spaces.
