EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative black-and-white photograph, Mr. Sydney Nicholson, the esteemed organist of Westminster Abbey, concentrates intently as he plays a specially composed anthem for the royal wedding of Prince Albert, Duke of York, and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon on the 26th of April, 1923. The historic event took place at the hallowed Westminster Abbey, an iconic venue that has been the site of numerous royal weddings and coronations throughout history. The Duke of York, who would later become King George VI, and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, later known as Queen Elizabeth, were united in matrimony amidst grandeur and tradition. Mr. Nicholson's musical prowess added an extra layer of elegance and solemnity to the momentous occasion. The organist, dressed in formal attire, sits before the grand organ, his fingers gracefully dancing across the keys, eliciting beautiful, resonant melodies that filled the abbey.
