Bevelled wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 archival quality photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, the Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. This evocative photograph captures the raw essence of traditional tin mining in Cornwall, England, as it was coming to an end in the late 1980s. The image, taken at the Geevor Tin Mine in Pendeen, Cornwall, depicts a lone miner deep underground, poised to drill into the mine's rich veins of tin ore. The mine, which had been in operation since the late 18th century, was just about to cease production due to declining profits and the increasing automation of the industry. The miner in the photograph wears a traditional Cornish mining helmet, complete with a safety lamp, to protect him from falling rocks and the low-lying coal dust that filled the mine's tunnels. His face is etched with the grime and sweat of a long day's labor, a testament to the physical demands of the job. The miner's drill, a long, cumbersome tool, is poised to strike the mine wall, its bit glinting in the dim light of the lamp.
