Bevelled wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 archival quality photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, the Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. This engraving depicts Klemens Wenzel Nepomuk Lothar von Metternich-Winneburg (1773-1859), an Austrian statesman and diplomat who rose to prominence in European politics during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Metternich, with his distinctive moustache and sideburns, is shown here in a formal seated position, dressed in the attire of a prince. He served as Chancellor of Austria from 1809, succeeding Stadion, and held a pivotal role in European affairs during the tumultuous period following the Napoleonic Wars. Between 1814 and 1815, Metternich chaired the Congress of Vienna, an assembly of European powers convened to reestablish peace and order in Europe. The Congress resulted in the imposition of a new political order based on the principles of the Old Regime, which sought to maintain the balance of power and prevent the emergence of revolutionary ideologies. Metternich's diplomatic skills and political acumen played a crucial role in shaping the European political landscape for decades to come. This engraving, titled "The Universal Illustration," was published in 1881, making it a contemporary representation of Metternich during his later years.
