EDITORS COMMENTS
This enchanting miniature painting transports us back to the medieval ages, where a Jewish community thrived in Europe. In this heartwarming scene from the Jewish Museum Berlin, Germany, young Jewish children are seen on their very first day of school. The teacher, with a kind and encouraging expression, watches over them as they eagerly engage in their studies. The children, dressed in traditional clothing, are seated at long wooden tables, each holding a parchment and a quill, ready to learn the Hebrew scriptures. The teacher, in the foreground, holds a plate of cookies, offering one to each child as they begin their educational journey. The sweet treat symbolizes the idea that learning is not only a necessary skill but also a delightful experience. The intricate details of this miniature painting capture the essence of the Jewish community during the Middle Ages, highlighting the importance of education and the joy it brought to the lives of these young pupils.
