EDITORS COMMENTS
Maria Teresa de Vallabriga y Rozas (1759-1820), a noblewoman from Aragon, Spain, is depicted in this striking portrait painted by the renowned artist Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) in 1783. At the age of 24, Maria Teresa was married to Infante Luis de Borbon, the fifth son of King Charles III of Spain. The portrait captures the aristocratic elegance and beauty of Maria Teresa, with her striking features, delicate complexion, and intricately styled hair. The painting is a testament to the contemporary European aristocracy of the late 18th century, an era of opulence and grandeur. The portrait now resides in the prestigious Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain, where it continues to captivate visitors with its historical significance and artistic merit. Goya, a master of his craft, expertly conveys the essence of Maria Teresa's character and the sophistication of the Spanish aristocracy through his use of light, color, and composition. This portrait is a valuable addition to the rich artistic heritage of Europe and a reminder of the beauty and elegance of the past.
