Bevelled wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 archival quality photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, the Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! This photograph showcases the historic Bayswater fire station, located in Pickering Place, Paddington, which opened its doors in 1904. The red-brick building, adorned with intricate architectural details, once served as a vital part of the London Fire Brigade's network. However, by the 1910s, advancements in firefighting technology, specifically the adoption of motorized fire engines, began to reduce the need for a large number of fire stations. A report commissioned by the London County Council (LCC) in 1920 recommended the closure of 15 fire stations across London to save costs. Sadly, Bayswater fire station was one of those selected for closure. The station, which once housed a team of brave firefighters and state-of-the-art equipment, now stands as a testament to the rich history of firefighting in London. The photograph, taken in 1918, captures the station in its final years of operation. The fire engines, which would have once roared down the streets of Bayswater, are now silent, and the firemen have moved on to newer stations. The building, though no longer in use, remains an essential piece of London's firefighting history.
