Environmentally and ozone friendly, the Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. The Loggerhead Shrike, also known as the Butcherbird, is a member of the Laniidae family, with cryptic brown and white plumage and distinctive black mask and crest. The Loggerhead Shrike is native to North and South America and is the largest shrike species in the New World. Known for its unusual hunting technique, it impales its prey, often small mammals and birds, on thorns or barbs for easy consumption. In this illustration, the Loggerhead Shrike is perched amongst the foliage of a greenbriar, a flowering plant from the Liliales order, providing a natural and authentic setting. Audubon's "Birds of America" is considered a masterpiece in the field of ornithology and natural history. The double elephant folio edition, measuring 39 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches, is the largest and most detailed version of the work.
