EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back to the enchanting landscapes of China in the mid-19th century. The image showcases the majestic Tseih Sing Yen, also known as the Seven Star Mountains, nestled along the Li River near Guilin. Crafted through a steel engraving technique by English artist Thomas Allom in 1843, this artwork captures both the natural beauty and cultural significance of this breathtaking location. The mountains rise proudly against a clear sky, their peaks reaching towards heaven with an air of tranquility. Lush greenery blankets their slopes, creating a harmonious contrast against their rugged forms. As we gaze upon this scene, we can almost hear the gentle flow of water from the nearby Li River and feel its cool mist on our skin. Intriguingly, amidst this serene landscape are tiny figures that add depth and perspective to the composition. These people remind us that these mountains were not only admired for their aesthetic appeal but were also home to communities who lived in harmony with nature. This remarkable print allows us to appreciate both historical artistry and China's timeless natural wonders. It serves as a testament to human creativity and our enduring fascination with capturing moments of beauty for generations to come.
