The ironclad warships of the 19th century revolutionized naval warfare, forever changing the course of history. One such iconic battle took place between the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia during the Civil War in 1862. These formidable vessels clashed in a historic duel that marked a new era in naval combat. Fast forward to 1864, and another significant engagement occurred at Mobile Bay. The Battle of Mobile Bay saw Admiral David Farragut leading his Union fleet against Confederate forces, including the fearsome ironclad ram Tennessee.
