EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Hermitage at Montmorency" a watercolor painting on paper created by the French School in the 18th century. The artwork is housed in the Musee de L Histoire Vivante, located in Montreuil, France. The Hermitage itself was lent to Jean-Jacques Rousseau, a prominent philosopher and writer of the time, by Mme Louise d Epinay between 1762 and 1783. Seeking solace from bustling Paris, Rousseau sought refuge in this idyllic retreat starting from 1756. The image depicts a picturesque garden surrounding the rustic cottage known as "L'Ermitage". In this serene setting, we witness an enchanting scene of gardening with someone gently watering plants nearby. The tranquility exuded by this composition transports viewers to a simpler time when rural life held great appeal. "The Hermitage at Montmorency" not only captures the essence of nature's beauty but also symbolizes Rousseau's desire for solitude and introspection. This painting serves as a testament to his longing for simplicity amidst society's complexities. Bridgeman Images has skillfully reproduced this masterpiece through their fine art printing techniques. As you admire this print, allow yourself to be transported back in time to experience the charm and serenity that once enveloped "The Hermitage at Montmorency. "
